Reading Contest
English Reading Contest of the 7th Grade
Recently the 7th classes had their annual English Reading Contest in a room next to the library. Each class sent their chosen reader and another student for support. The contest was moderated by Mr Hoeffker and organized by Mrs Ludewig. At its beginning the readers drew lots to decide who would read their prepared text first.
In the second round every contestant had to read an unprepared text. The text that was chosen was the first chapter of J. K. Rowling’s “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” and everyone was required to read for a certain amount of time.
After the second round we were sent to the library for a bit to leave the jury in peace. This was the exciting part because the jury, made up of three teachers and three students, had to agree on who the winner was going to be. While the students were reading, they had been rating them on points like speed, pronunciation and putting life and emotion into the text. Now they were able to discuss who they thought had done best.
In the end Jonathan (7bil) impressed the jury most and was chosen as the winner and our school’s representative at the city’s contest. Johanna (7mint) was awarded 2nd prize and Aiza (7a3) came 3rd. Lida (7a2) and Elisa (7a1) shared 4th place.
Congratulations to all the participants and thank you to all the teachers and students involved in the contest :)
