Reading Contest

7mint´s Johanna Finishes Second in Göttingen-wide Reading Contest

For Monday, 22nd June, the representatives of most of Göttingen´s secondary schools were invited to take part in the city-wide English reading contest for Year 7 at Felix-Klein-Gymnasium. In the two rounds of reading a prepared text first and later an unknown one to a jury of teachers from all attending schools and the audience, the young readers proved their proficiency in fluency, pronunciation, articulation or expression.
After reading from “Harry Potter – the Prisoner of Azkaban” in round one, Johanna, just as the other contestants, had to read from Roald Dahl´s “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”. The emotional writing and partly absurd names of Dahl´s book posed a challenge to the students, which they managed very well.
OHG-candidate Szonja convinced the entire jury in both prepared and unprepared reading and won the contest, making OHG the location of next year´s Göttingen final. FKG´s Johanna and THG´s Freya were both put into second place as they also read fluently with an idiomatic pronunciation.
The English department congratulates Johanna for her performance and is looking forward to contesting at OHG next year.
